BOOK TALKS
ORAL
COMMUNICATION:
Grade 1 Curriculum Expectations
2.3 Communicate ideas and information orally in a clear, coherent manner
2.4 Choose appropriate words to communicate meaning accurately and engage
the interest of the audience
2.5 Identify
some vocal effects, including tone, pace, pitch and volume and use them appropriately to help communicate meaning
Each month the students will be asked to prepare a BOOK TALK to develop their ability to
orally communicate specific information to an audience. Students will either
share ideas relating to fiction texts or key facts about non-fiction topics. They
may choose books from our classroom, school library, home or the local public
library.
Your child will present on the same weekday (see below) during the
presentation weeks listed below. For example, Student “A” will always present
on Mondays (Sept. 21st; Oct. 26th), Student “B” will
always present on Tuesdays (Sept. 22nd; Oct. 27th), and
so on. Students will be evaluated using our Book Talk Success
Criteria (see attached).
